Neil Gorsuch Sworn in as U.S. Supreme Court Justice

Neil Gorsuch was sworn in as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice on Monday, April 10. According to the Associated Press, with the addition of Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, conservatives now hold five of the nine seats on the country's most important judicial body. Neil Gorsuch was able to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, one of the most important conservative justices on the Supreme Court, 14 months after his passing. The swearing-in ceremony for Neil Gorsuch took place at the White House and was attended by Donald Trump, the President of the United States. According to reports, Gorsuch's start is considered a victory for Donald Trump, as he has fulfilled one of his campaign promises within the first 100 days of his presidency. Before the swearing-in ceremony, Donald Trump told Neil Gorsuch that the country is counting on his wise, impartial, and fair approach. Gorsuch, 49, was the youngest nominee to the Supreme Court in the last 25 years, but the Democratic minority in the Senate strongly opposed him. After Justice Scalia's death, his seat remained vacant, but Republicans refused to consider the nominee proposed by former President Barack Obama. The Senate, where Republicans hold the majority, overcame Democratic opposition by changing the rules on April 6. The Senate confirmed Neil Gorsuch, a judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals, with 54 votes in favor and 45 against. Gorsuch's confirmation is seen as a significant victory for Donald Trump, especially after his recent failure to pass a healthcare bill in the House of Representatives, indicating that he can advance his major agenda in Congress.
