Nepal Earthquake; Death Toll Exceeds 3200

International rescue teams have arrived in Nepal to assist local forces and the public following the deadliest earthquake in the country in eight decades. Meanwhile, officials in Kathmandu have reported the latest death toll to be over 3200. According to AFP, official sources state that the number of victims has surpassed 3300, with 3218 fatalities occurring in Nepal itself. Nearly 90 people have also died in neighboring countries, including 67 in India and 20 in China. At least 18 climbers have lost their lives in an avalanche triggered by the quake on Everest. The process of retrieving and identifying earthquake victims continues, as large parts of Kathmandu, the capital, have been severely damaged. The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Nepal has continued to rise, with strong aftershocks occurring, leading thousands in the capital to seek refuge in the streets and open spaces. On Sunday, India, Nepal's closest cultural neighbor, sent 13 military aircraft carrying several tons of food, medicine, blankets, and other aid to Kathmandu and the earthquake-affected areas. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar stated that the dispatched military planes also include crisis management experts and medical supplies. Indian aid is a significant part of the international relief efforts following the earthquake, which has already claimed over 2500 lives. India has always been one of Nepal's most important partners, connected by cultural, religious, and linguistic ties. The Indian Foreign Minister also mentioned that the aircraft carry three field hospitals, two tons of medicine, and 10 tons of blankets and tents. Reports from Kathmandu and other regions indicate that following strong aftershocks in recent hours, thousands of people have chosen to spend the night in the streets. The Nepali Times reports that many open areas in Kathmandu are overcrowded. Relief efforts in the narrow streets of Kathmandu are facing challenges, as hospitals in the capital are filled with the bodies of victims and the wounded. The Nepali Times noted that rescuers are encountering many difficulties in removing the remnants of destroyed structures from the old, narrow streets of the city and in retrieving those who may still be trapped under the rubble. At 1 PM on Sunday, an aftershock measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale shook the northeast of Kathmandu. This strong aftershock was also felt in parts of India and Bangladesh.
