Netanyahu: Plans for Several Terrorist Attacks on Israeli Embassies Identified and Neutralized

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that his country has identified and neutralized plans for 'terrorist attacks' on several Israeli embassies and other countries around the world. According to Israeli media, Netanyahu made these remarks on Wednesday, April 25, during a memorial ceremony for Israeli diplomats killed abroad. Without providing further details about these 'terrorist attack plots,' he added, 'The threats for such attacks still exist.' According to the Israeli Prime Minister, his country has both prevented attacks on its embassies in several countries and informed several other countries about plans to attack their embassies in other nations. Netanyahu did not mention the names of these countries but stated that Israeli security agencies have increased efforts worldwide to identify threats early. He said, 'We have not allowed the plots to reach the execution stage; from the very beginning, we have thwarted many plans.' The Israeli Prime Minister, who is also the Foreign Minister in his government, stated that security measures to protect embassies and members of Israeli diplomatic missions worldwide have been increased. Israel attributes the bombing of its embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 to Iran and claims that this bombing, like the 1994 terrorist bombing at the Argentine Jewish community center, was carried out by the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in collaboration with Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Argentine judiciary has not linked the 25-year-old bombing of the Israeli embassy to Iran despite Israel's insistence. In recent years, Israel has reported plans for attacks on its embassies in Georgia, Azerbaijan, and later in Thailand, India, Kenya, and several other countries. Thai security forces arrested individuals with Iranian citizenship in winter 2012 in connection with an attempt to attack Israeli targets in Bangkok. One of the detainees in Bangkok, named Saeed Moradi, lost his leg in a bomb explosion while being pursued by Thai security forces before his arrest. In addition to Saeed Moradi, Thailand also arrested Mohammad Khazaei 'during his escape' at Bangkok airport. The Israeli Prime Minister had attributed plans for attacks in Georgia, India, and Thailand to Iran as well.
