Netanyahu: We have dealt blows to Hezbollah recently that they never imagined

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday, October 1, that his country has dealt "successive blows" to Hezbollah in recent days that the group "never imagined." Netanyahu added in his cabinet meeting that these strikes were aimed at stopping Hezbollah's attacks on Israel and that "if they do not understand our message, we will do something to make them understand it." These remarks seem to allude to suspicious explosions in thousands of pagers and hundreds of radios and other communication equipment of Hezbollah forces on September 18 and 19 across Lebanon and parts of Syria. In these explosions, which Hezbollah and Iran, Hezbollah's main supporter in the region, attributed to Israel, a total of 37 people were killed and thousands were injured. The Lebanese Health Minister reported on October 1 that the death toll from the Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut had risen to 47. Israeli President Isaac Herzog stated in an interview with Sky News that the killed Hezbollah commanders were those whose immediate agenda was to execute previous plans for an attack on Galilee and to seize two Israeli towns in that area. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz also said on October 1 that Hezbollah has tied the fate of Beirut to the extremist group Hamas. Hezbollah announced that in response to a series of Israeli operations in recent days, it attacked further cities in northern Israel, targeting the military base "Ramat David" located 50 kilometers from the border and a factory related to Israeli military industries "Rafael" in the suburbs of Haifa. An Israeli army spokesperson stated that Hezbollah fired at least 150 rockets, including medium-range rockets, at northern Israel over approximately 12 hours, deliberately attempting to harm civilians. The spokesperson noted that the interception rate by Israel was "high." Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Sunday that Hezbollah has only seen part of Israel's capabilities and that the country will continue its operations until "the safe return of displaced persons from northern areas." Given the firing of several missiles from southern Syria towards the Israeli Golan Heights and the failed attempts by Iraqi Shiite militants to attack northern and southern Israel with cruise missiles and drones early on Sunday, some former Israeli army commanders told the media that this situation is no longer a "full-scale regional war." The extremist groups Hamas and Hezbollah are recognized as terrorist organizations by the U.S. and some of Israel's Western allies but are supported by Iran and are aligned with the Houthis in Yemen and Iraqi Shiite militants.
