Netanyahu's Strong Reaction to South Africa's Complaint Against Israel; We Are Fighting Terrorists and Lies

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, reacted strongly to South Africa's complaint at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, stating, "The hypocrisy of South Africa reaches the heavens." He said, "We are fighting terrorists, we are fighting lies... today we witnessed an upside-down world. Israel is accused of genocide while it is fighting against genocide." The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused South Africa of playing the role of the legal arm of the terrorist organization Hamas in a case built on "false and baseless claims." South Africa has accused Israel of violating the 1948 Genocide Convention, which was enacted following the mass murder of Jews in the Holocaust and obligates all countries to ensure that such crimes are never repeated. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, a lawyer from South Africa's High Court at The Hague, accused Israel of intending genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. South Africa requested the court to issue a preliminary order for Israel to cease its war in Gaza while the court addresses the case in the coming months. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on Tuesday, rejected South Africa's accusations, reminding that Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, along with their supporter, the Islamic Republic of Iran, continue to seek the destruction of Israel and the massacre of Jews. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., the EU, the UK, Canada, Japan, and several other countries. Since the beginning of the new year, Israel has announced a new phase of war with the start of troop withdrawals in the northern half of the Gaza Strip. While Washington has supported Israel's right to self-defense, it has also urged its ally to reduce the war, make greater efforts to protect civilians, and allow hope for an independent Palestinian state in the future. This week, Blinken met with Israeli and Palestinian officials and leaders of neighboring Arab countries, defending Israel's military campaign to eradicate Hamas but emphasizing cooperation with the Palestinian Authority, which recognizes Israel. During his visit to Egypt, he stated that providing a pathway for the establishment of a Palestinian state is the best way to create stability in the region and isolate the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies. He also learned about the progress of Egypt and Qatar in mediating between Hamas and Israel to establish a ceasefire and ensure the freedom of over 130 hostages still held by Hamas. Israel will go to The Hague to respond to South Africa's accusation of "genocide in Gaza." The International Court of Justice has begun addressing South Africa's complaint against Israel for "genocide." Blinken stated that the formation of a Palestinian state would isolate the Islamic Republic.
