New British Sanctions Against the Islamic Republic; David Lammy: We Will Continue Cooperation with Israel Against the Iranian Government

On Monday, September 12, the British government announced sanctions against three Iranian citizens affiliated with the Islamic Republic and the Quds Force's 700 unit. Abdol Fattah Ahvazian, Behnam Shahriari, and Hamid Fazeli are the three Iranian citizens sanctioned alongside the 700 unit. According to the British government's statement, Abdol Fattah Ahvazian has been involved in hostile activities of the Iranian government, including threatening, planning, or executing actions aimed at destabilizing the UK or other countries. 'Undermining the integrity, prosperity, or security of the UK or other countries' is among the destabilizing activities cited by the British government in explaining the reasons for sanctioning Ahvazian. The statement also mentions that Hamid Fazeli, commander of the 340 unit of the Revolutionary Guards, has been involved in providing assistance to armed groups threatening, planning, or executing destabilizing activities against Israel. Behnam Shahriari has also been involved in facilitating or providing assistance for planning or executing destabilizing activities against Israel, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon. Finally, the 700 unit of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been accused by the British government of facilitating or providing assistance for planning or executing destabilizing activities against the UK or other countries. David Lammy, the British Foreign Secretary, emphasized on Monday the continuation of cooperation with Israel to counter the threat of the Iranian government across the Middle East. In remarks to the House of Commons, he referred to some of his country's support for Israel against the Islamic Republic, including the participation of British fighter jets in intercepting missiles fired at Israel in late April and support for actions against the Houthis. The British Foreign Secretary further stated that the UK continues to hold the Iranian government accountable, and in this regard, on Monday, it imposed sanctions on three individuals and one entity of the Islamic Republic. Lammy reminded that the UK has sanctioned 400 individuals and entities of the Iranian government so far and will expose and curb the destabilizing weapon development by the Islamic Republic through cooperation with its partners. The British government has banned the entry of two supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah into the country. Europe has sanctioned several individuals and entities for financing Hamas; a Quds Force member is among those sanctioned. The US, UK, and Canada coordinated to impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic. The UK has imposed new sanctions against the drone and missile industries of the Islamic Republic. The UK, in coordination with the United States, has imposed new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
