New Charges Filed Against Pakhshan Azizi, Political Prisoner Sentenced to Death

The 'Freedom for Pakhshan Azizi' campaign reported the formation of a new case against this political prisoner sentenced to death. According to the campaign's report, the new case, titled 'Chaos in Prison,' was established in the third branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office and is related to the voting day for determining the successor to Ebrahim Raisi in the second round. No details about this case have been published. The report further states that Pakhshan Azizi has been deprived of the right to contact and visit his family since that day, July 15. Many political prisoners did not participate in the voting to determine the successor to Ebrahim Raisi and boycotted it. Pakhshan Azizi, a political prisoner, was arrested on August 4, 2023, in the Kharazi neighborhood of Tehran, where he was interrogated and tortured in an intelligence detention center. He was then transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison and later to the women's ward of this prison. In the winter of 2023, he was accused of 'rebellion through membership in opposition groups' by the fifth branch of the Evin Security Prosecutor's Office. This political prisoner, originally from Mahabad and a graduate of social work from Allameh Tabatabai University, was first arrested in November 2009 during a student protest against political executions and was released on bail of 100 million tomans on March 18, 2010. He was tried in June of this year on charges of 'rebellion' and sentenced to death.
