New Financial Allegation Against Conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice; Tuition Fees for Grandson

Clarence Thomas, one of the nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, is facing another financial allegation regarding the undisclosed tuition fees for his grandson. According to Voice of America, Mr. Thomas, who has recently been accused of failing to report travel expenses and property sales, is now accused by the media-research organization ProPublica of not disclosing the payment of his grandson's tuition. This organization, which conducts various investigations aimed at preventing corruption among the powerful, claims that Harlan Crow, a wealthy real estate magnate in the U.S., covered the costs of Justice Thomas's grandson's education at a private school, and Justice Thomas did not mention this in his tax self-disclosure. Under U.S. law, officials and judges are required to officially disclose a list of gifts received each year. Justice Thomas's office has not responded, but a lawyer close to him has deemed the ProPublica report biased. Justice Clarence Thomas, a conservative justice on the Supreme Court, has previously omitted instances of financial assistance and gifts in his tax self-disclosures. Two months ago, some Democratic senators criticized him for receiving expensive gifts and traveling on a private jet, the costs of which were covered by Harlan Crow, and Justice Thomas did not disclose these expenses and gifts. These Democrats consider his actions a violation, but unlike the Democrats, Republican senators have supported him, stating that he has committed no wrongdoing. In late Farvardin, Justice Thomas announced that he intends to amend his financial disclosures to include a real estate transaction he made with a major Republican donor in 2014. The U.S. Supreme Court, which is the highest judicial authority in the United States, has nine members. Justice Thomas is part of the conservative faction that holds the majority in this court.
