New Poll: Majority of Americans Support U.S. Military Aid to Ukraine

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, a decisive majority of Americans support providing military weapons to Ukraine for self-defense against Russia, believing such assistance demonstrates the United States' firm resolve to protect its interests and those of its allies against China and other U.S. rivals. The two-day poll, which ended on Tuesday, shows a significant increase in support for arming Ukraine, with 65% of respondents approving the provision of military weapons to Ukraine, up from 46% in a May poll. The latest survey indicates that 81% of Democrats, 56% of Republicans, and 57% of independents agree with supplying American weaponry to Ukraine. Since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched what he termed a 'special military operation' against Ukraine in February 2022, the Biden administration has approved 41 arms packages worth over $40 billion for Ukraine. The online Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted across the United States, gathering responses from 1,004 adults, including 400 Democrats and 383 Republicans. The survey revealed that 76% of Americans believe that providing aid to Ukraine signals to China and other rivals that the United States has 'the will and ability to protect our interests, our allies, and ourselves.' The President of Ukraine claims to have made progress in reclaiming territories from Russia, while the Ukrainian army continues to advance on the battlefield against Russian forces. Other news includes a poll from an Imam Sadiq University-affiliated institute indicating that 71% of people believe there is discrimination in Iran, a research report examining political detention and imprisonment in Iran, and a report on a Russian missile attack in Ukraine that resulted in four deaths and 42 injuries at a restaurant.
