New York Governor: New York Explosion Not Specifically Linked to ISIS

He also announced that all the injured from the incident have been discharged from the hospital. In a press conference on Sunday, September 28, Andrew Cuomo expressed relief that the Saturday night explosion in New York did not result in any fatalities, but noted that some of the injuries were serious. He emphasized that this explosion was certainly a terrorist act, but at this stage of the investigation, no trace of international terrorism has been found, and 'in other words, we have not found any connection between this explosion and ISIS.' The Governor also stressed, 'We will find those responsible for this explosion and bring them to justice.' Another emphasis from the Governor was that New York does not currently appear to be facing an 'immediate threat.' The Mayor of New York also stated that the motive and nature of the explosion are still unclear, and it is uncertain whether the motivation behind it was political or personal. He emphasized that currently, the police, law enforcement, and specifically the city's anti-terrorism units are on high alert. The explosion occurred on a busy street in the Chelsea neighborhood, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility for it yet. Regarding the manner of the explosion, CBS News reported that sources told them the explosion occurred in a portable trash can. According to the Governor, subway stations in the area have been examined for potential damage, and since no damage was observed, full operations will resume on Tuesday.
