Newspapers Honor Mohammad Javad Zarif; From 'Arash' to 'Amir Kabir'

Some Tehran newspapers in their Tuesday editions praised Mohammad Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of Hassan Rouhani's government, for his management of nuclear negotiations. Javid Ghorban-Oghli, former director general of Iran's Foreign Ministry, in the editorial of Shargh newspaper titled 'A Reliable Point,' noted the difference in perspective between two approaches in the four negotiating teams over the past thirteen years, stating: 'Changing the previous approach is the key to unlocking Iran's nuclear talks with the six opposing countries. Dr. Zarif and his colleagues have proven that instead of insisting on bringing the opponent down, it is possible to raise both sides' hands, which signifies a good agreement for both negotiating parties.' Aftab Yazd newspaper published a portrait of Mohammad Javad Zarif in Qajar-era clothing and hat on its front page, reporting under the title 'Our Amir Kabir': 'Whether the negotiations yield results and an agreement is reached, or as the hardliners claim, it fails and the nuclear issue remains, Mohammad Javad Zarif's position among the Iranian people is secure.' Qanoon newspaper also published an illustration on its front page depicting Mohammad Javad Zarif as 'Arash,' the mythical hero of Iran, stating: 'From Arash to Zarif, we have endured heartaches for Iran to become a shining gem.' Etemad newspaper dedicated its front-page photo to a smiling Mohammad Javad Zarif on the balcony of the Coburg Hotel, reporting under the title 'Morning of Agreement,' stating: 'The ban on selling airplanes to Iran will be lifted, and the export of Iranian carpets and foodstuffs to the U.S. will be permitted,' and 'a new Security Council resolution will not be issued under Chapter Seven, and only a few clauses will fall under Article 41.' Kayhan newspaper, which had previously emphasized in its editorial on July 9 that 'no agreement is forthcoming,' described the achievement of a nuclear agreement as insignificant, stating: 'Our nation is not unfamiliar with agreements.' Donya-e-Eqtesad newspaper reported under the title 'Iran's Economy After the Agreement' that it is expected that with the end of uncertainty, the investment and policymaking outlook will broaden, and reports indicate that the short-term effects of lifting sanctions will be more evident in market trends than in the 'government' and 'private sector.' This newspaper noted that in the 'government' sector, a dual effect of the agreement is also anticipated, stating: 'Although some government resources may be freed in the medium term, the short-term decline in oil prices will pressure government resources,' and in the business sector, 'the area related to foreign trade will need less time to thrive compared to other sectors.' Etemad also highlighted the reaction of Esmail Ahmadi-Moghaddam regarding his summons to the Kahrizak court, quoting the former police chief as saying: 'I will go to court as a witness.' Resalat newspaper reported on the concerns expressed by Gholamali Haddad-Adel regarding the potential victory of reformists in the upcoming parliamentary elections and the repetition of the sixth parliament, quoting him as saying: 'Principlists should not be bitten multiple times by the hole of division.' Iran newspaper reported on its front page, quoting Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje'i, the spokesperson for the judiciary, that 'the case of the sale of Qeshm Airport is under investigation,' and 'the case of the missing oil platform is being handled in Tehran's prosecutor's office, and the main suspect in this case has also been arrested.'
