Nika Shakeri's Sister Reports Their Mother's Imprisonment in the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Center in Khorramabad

Aida Shakeri, Nika's sister, who was among the victims of the protests in 2022, announced in a brief message on her X account that their mother is in the temporary detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence in Khorramabad. In the post published on Saturday, October 28, there was no explanation regarding the reason for Nasrin Shakeri's arrest. Aida Shakeri had reported on Wednesday, October 25, three days earlier, through social media that her mother was arrested in Khorramabad that evening but stated that she had no information about the reason for her arrest or the charges against her. From Aida Shakeri's posts on social media, it appears that the Shakeri family was unaware of Nasrin Shakeri's location until Saturday. The security and judicial authorities have also not provided any explanation regarding the reasons for her arrest. Nasrin Shakeri, Nika's mother, was arrested. Nika Shakeri was one of hundreds of protesters who were killed during the protests following the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini in custody of the morality police in 2022, and government agencies forced her family to bury the body of this teenager in a remote village in Khorramabad, Lorestan. One of the latest instances of government pressure on the Shakeri family occurred last month on the second anniversary of Nika Shakeri's death, when they announced that government agents had blocked the roads leading to the cemetery, preventing Nika's family from entering the cemetery and being present at her grave. Seventeen-year-old Nika Shakeri disappeared on the evening of September 20, 2022, during the first protests of "Women, Life, Freedom" in Keshavarz Boulevard, Tehran, and after eight days, her body was handed over to her family. Iranian state media claimed that Nika jumped from a half-finished building and committed suicide, but Nasrin Shakeri, her mother, about two weeks after the announcement of Nika's death, stated in a video message exclusively provided to Radio Farda that the forensic certificate indicated that the cause of her daughter's death was "multiple blows from a hard object" to her head.
