Nika's Mother Denied Visiting Rights Eight Days After Arrest

Nika Shakeri's sister says that eight days after the arrest of their mother, Nasrin Shakeri, she is still denied contact and visitation rights. Aida Shakeri wrote on social media platform X on Thursday, November 3: "Eight days have passed since my mother was imprisoned, and she is still prohibited from contacting or visiting, and [Islamic Republic officials] have not provided any news about her condition." Earlier, Ms. Shakeri had stated two days after the announcement of her mother's disappearance, on Saturday, October 28, that Nasrin Shakeri is "in the temporary detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence in Khorramabad." According to her, Nasrin Shakeri, the mother of Nika Shakeri, a teenager killed during the nationwide protests of 2022, was arrested on October 25 in Khorramabad by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. Nasrin Shakeri's Instagram page has also been inaccessible since Wednesday, October 25, with all posts deleted. Nika Shakeri was a 16-year-old Iranian protester who was "subjected to assault by government agents" and killed during the nationwide protests in the fall of 2022. At that time, state media attempted to portray Nika Shakeri's death as a suicide, but the BBC reported this spring that it had obtained documents proving that Nika Shakeri was abducted by three members of the IRGC, assaulted, and ultimately killed.
