Nikki Haley Withdraws from Election Race; Paving the Way for a Trump-Biden Rematch

Nikki Haley, the last remaining competitor against Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, officially announced on Wednesday that she is suspending her campaign following a decisive defeat in the primary elections known as "Super Tuesday" across sixteen states and territories. Although Haley congratulated Trump in a message, she did not endorse him. The former U.S. ambassador to the UN under Trump wished the former president success but noted that it is up to Trump to win the votes of those in the Republican Party and beyond who do not support him. Donald Trump, whose streak of victories continued last night, posted on his social media, stating: "Nikki Haley suffered an unprecedented defeat last night, despite Democrats being allowed to vote in Vermont and other Republican primary elections for unknown reasons." Joe Biden, who was already seeking to capture some of Haley's supporters in the presidential election on November 5 this year, stated in a release: "Donald Trump has clearly said he does not want Nikki Haley's supporters; I want to make it clear that there is a place for them in my campaign." Biden further added: "I know we will not agree on many things. But on the fundamental issues of preserving American democracy, upholding the rule of law, treating each other with dignity and respect, maintaining NATO, and standing against America's enemies, I hope and believe we can find common ground." Dean Phillips, Biden's rival who also failed to achieve success on Super Tuesday, announced he would withdraw from the race and declared his support for Biden. The 55-year-old House member stated that only Biden and Trump remain, and if Biden is not elected, Trump will be the alternative, which is "very dangerous." Although the primary elections of the two major political parties in the U.S. - Democratic and Republican - have not yet concluded and their national conventions to nominate their final candidates for the upcoming elections have not been held, it seems that Donald Trump and Joe Biden will once again face each other after four years.
