Niloufar Amraei, Journalist and Children's Literature Translator, Passes Away

Niloufar Amraei, a journalist and translator of children's literature, passed away on Saturday, June 25, at the age of 35 in Tehran. Asadollah Amraei, a well-known translator and Niloufar's father, expressed his grief on Instagram, stating: "If death is justice, what is tyranny? Niloufar Amraei, a young translator who sought to color our world, has left us with a world full of life and enthusiasm." Abolfazl Bani, director of the Baran Institute, informed the ISNA news agency about the underlying illness of this translator, stating that she died after a drop in blood sugar. Niloufar Amraei, daughter of Asadollah Amraei, became known during the 'Women, Life, Freedom' protests, where she shared images of herself cutting her hair on social media, similar to many supporters of the protesters. Some users on the social media platform 'X' have shared these images to commemorate her. Among the books translated by her are 'Mrs. Cherry's Kitchen', 'What Can Be Done with a Fresh Idea', and 'Hours: An Activity Book with Drawing, Coloring, and Stickers', as well as 'Home Education (Numbers)'. About three years ago, she was listed among the selected children's and young adult translators at the Turtle of the Bird Festival for her translation of 'Mrs. Cherry's Kitchen', a news that Asadollah Amraei also shared on his Instagram page. Niloufar Amraei's funeral is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 26, at Behesht Zahra in Tehran. Last year, Pantea Eghbalzadeh, a well-known children's book author and translator, committed suicide after criticizing the 'state of the country' and expressing a lack of hope for recovery and success. Other notable recent deaths include Shahla Lahiji, a historian and Iranian publisher, and Ahmad Samiei Gilani, a renowned writer and translator.
