Niloufar Hamedi's Complaint Against Judge Salavati; Preventing Release After 'Temporary Detention'

Mohammad Hossein Ajarloo, the husband of imprisoned journalist Niloufar Hamedi, who has been in 'temporary detention' for over a year, announced her complaint against Judge Salavati. According to Ajarloo, the reason for this complaint is the Revolutionary Court judge's refusal to release her at the end of one year of 'temporary detention.' The process of addressing this complaint is still 'unclear,' according to Ajarloo. He wrote in a post on his social media accounts on X and Instagram: 'It has been a month since we filed an objection to Judge Salavati's unjust ruling against Niloufar, but her case has still not been referred to any of the appellate branches for proceedings. Niloufar remains in illegal temporary detention as an accused person, without a definitive ruling.' Hamedi was arrested during last year's nationwide protests for covering the news of Mahsa Amini's death while in the custody of the 'Guidance Patrol' and was sentenced to 7 years in prison for 'collaborating with a hostile government (the U.S.),' 5 years for 'gathering and colluding to commit a crime against national security,' and 1 year for 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran,' which, if confirmed, would result in 7 years of imprisonment. The U.S. government has repeatedly denied any connection or collaboration with Niloufar Hamedi and described such rulings as the Islamic Republic's attempt to suppress freedom of expression. Previously, Saideh Fathi Abadi, a sports journalist, referred to the charges against Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi as 'fabricated cases' by the Islamic Republic for these journalists, stating that even the laws of the Islamic Republic are violated in its courts. The Committee to Protect Journalists has named the Islamic Republic of Iran as the 'worst jail for journalists in the world' in 2022.
