Niloufar Mirzaei, one of the detainees at Armita Garavand's funeral, transferred to Qarchak Prison

The human rights organization "Hengaw" reported the transfer of Niloufar Mirzaei, a student activist arrested during the funeral of Armita Garavand, to Qarchak Prison, stating that her case remains unresolved. This graphic design student from Alzahra University in Tehran was arrested on Sunday, October 29, 2023, during the funeral of Armita Garavand in Behesht Zahra, Tehran, along with several other political and human rights activists. This student activist has been transferred by security forces to Qarchak Prison and remains in detention without a clear status. Previously, she had spent some time in detention during the "Women, Life, Freedom" protests and was ultimately released on February 12, 2023, after approximately three and a half months in custody. Her disciplinary record includes a two-semester temporary suspension from studies, deprivation of dormitory access until graduation, and an exile order to Yazd University. Earlier, the Persian section of Voice of America reported exclusively on the transfer of 14 detainees from Armita Garavand's funeral, accused of "gathering and collusion," to the quarantine section of Evin Prison. These individuals, including Hamid Abaspour, Hashem Mehrabian, Majid Hoshang Kianpour, Mohammad Reza Fahim, Mehran Haji Hashemi, Asghar Seyedfaraji, Ali Sukhteza, Ramtin Bandeh, Masoud Zeynali Zadeh, Iman Miri, Siamak Masihpour, Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi Rahbari, Youssef Hoshyar, and Mohammad Farzollah, have been charged with "gathering and collusion" by Branch 7 of Evin's prosecutor's office. Additionally, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer, Manzar Zarabi from the families of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash, and Mohammad Garavand have also been reported among the detainees at this ceremony. According to the government news agency Fars, Nasrin Sotoudeh is accused of "removing the hijab and acting against the psychological security of society." Armita Garavand, a 16-year-old girl, was attacked by a "morality police" officer on October 1, 2023, at the "Shahada Square" metro station in Tehran for not wearing a hijab and was pushed, causing her head to hit the train's exit door, leading to her coma. The announcement of her death sparked numerous domestic and international reactions. The White House commented on Armita Garavand's death, stating that this violence against the people indicates the "fragility of the regime."
