Nobel Laureates Demand Full Freedom for Narges Mohammadi

Eighty-five Nobel Prize winners from various fields around the world have called for the release of all political prisoners from the prisons of the Islamic Republic and emphasized the need for the unconditional freedom of Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner. In a statement, they referred to Mohammadi's medical leave and temporary release since December 5, and the increasing pressures to return her to prison, stressing the necessity of her complete and unconditional freedom. They wrote: "We demand that Narges Mohammadi's temporary release be made permanent. Her steadfastness reminds us that the struggle for justice and freedom knows no borders. Let us together demand justice for Narges and all those who have bravely stood against oppression with hope and indomitable will." The signatories of the statement emphasized: "We stand with Narges Mohammadi and all those who have been unjustly imprisoned for daring to envision a fairer Iran, and we call on the international community to rise in solidarity and amplify the cries of women, life, freedom in Iran." The Nobel laureates further noted, "The ropes of the gallows will be torn by the powerful hands of each of us. We hope for the day when execution chambers and gallows will only remind us of oppression and serve as a lesson for our humanity, freedom, and equality." The Nobel Peace Committee in Norway awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize to Narges Mohammadi for her decisive role in combating the oppression of women in Iran and her struggle to promote human rights and freedom for all. Narges Mohammadi, who has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times over the past two decades, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "propaganda against the regime" in her latest legal case.
