Nokia Sues Apple Over Patent Infringement

Nokia has announced that it will sue Apple for the "theft of many of its inventions." According to Reuters, Nokia claims that Apple has violated 32 of its patents. Interestingly, Apple has also filed a lawsuit against Nokia for a similar reason. Nokia's lawsuits against Apple are being pursued in several courts in Europe and the United States, including the Munich court. These lawsuits include issues such as user interface, software, antennas, chips, broadcasting, and display technology. Nokia claims that Apple has used many of its patented technologies in its products without Nokia's permission since 2011. Apple has denied these allegations, stating that it has always paid for the use of others' inventions. After acquiring Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent in 2016, Nokia now legally owns several thousand patents, which are valued at approximately $115 billion in the technology world. Nokia plans to return to the mobile world in 2017 and introduce several new models. The company HMD, managed by former Nokia executives, will be responsible for marketing and selling the phones, while production and R&D will be handled by Foxconn. The new Nokia phones are set to be launched at the MWC 2017. The flagship model will feature a 5.5-inch display with 2K quality and will use the Snapdragon 835 chip. The camera will be 22 megapixels and will utilize Carl Zeiss lenses. In terms of design, this phone will be waterproof and will have a metal body. The mid-range Nokia phone will use the Snapdragon 430 chip, an eight-core processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz, and will come with 3 GB of RAM and Android 7. The cheapest phone will use the Snapdragon 200 chip, which includes a dual-core processor with a frequency of 1.19 GHz. Nokia has equipped this low-end phone with 1 GB of RAM and will offer it with Android 7 by default. Nokia no longer intends to use Windows as software in its phones and will use Android software in its new models. It has been reported that the version of Android used in Nokia phones will be simple yet functional and fast. Before 2005, Nokia was the leading mobile manufacturer in the world, but gradually lost its position to Samsung and Apple with the advent of smartphones, eventually being acquired by Microsoft. Now, after separating from Microsoft, the company aims to return to competition in the phone market with a transformation in its previous structure. Nokia phones are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2017, and the company will likely introduce its new phones at the Mobile World Congress taking place in February in Spain.
