North American Aerospace Defense Commander Warns of Security Threats from North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran

On Thursday, March 15, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) commander warned during a U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee meeting about the growing security threats posed by North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran. General Gregory Giew highlighted the potential danger of the Islamic Republic to the U.S., stating that although it "lacks the capability to strike North America with long-range missiles, it has invested heavily to acquire this capability." He also mentioned the Islamic Republic's support for its proxy militant groups, adding that "the Islamic Republic is developing its global operational network by supporting Islamist groups in the Middle East and violent groups in other countries." The NORAD commander expressed concern about North Korea's weapon development programs, including solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles, which could catch the U.S. off guard. He emphasized NORAD's efforts to enhance "domain awareness," identifying, tracking, and destroying various threats, from long-range ballistic missiles to small drones. Regarding China, this senior U.S. military official stated, "The Chinese military is rapidly modernizing and growing, and its expanding nuclear capabilities alongside the development of modern submarines, missiles, and hypersonic weapons could pose a significant challenge to the United States." General Giew described Russia as "an immediate nation-state concern," referring to its large stockpile of strategic and non-strategic nuclear weapons and Moscow's ability to strike North America with precision conventional air and sea-launched weapons. He noted Russia's investments in threatening systems such as advanced guided missile submarines, hypersonic missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, as well as cyber and underwater capabilities. Reuters: The European Union intends to respond to Iran's military support for Russia with "new and significant measures." The British Defense Minister states that the Islamic Republic of Iran has provided ballistic missiles to Russia. The U.S. states that the launch of the Islamic Republic's satellite by the Russians and the deepening military partnership between the two countries is harmful to the world. The White House criticizes the Speaker of the House of Representatives; do not feed into the Islamic Republic and Russia's agenda.
