Nose Aesthetic Surgery Tops Cosmetic Procedures; Increase in Male Facial Surgery Requests

Alireza Saberi, Secretary of the Iranian Scientific Association of Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetics, announced on Wednesday, November 1, that "nose aesthetic surgery is at the top of cosmetic procedures." He stated that the number of men seeking cosmetic surgery has increased. He told Khabar Online, "Currently, nose aesthetic surgery is more prevalent than other cosmetic surgeries in Iran, and it is likely that the most nose surgeries in the world are performed in Iran, thus earning it the title of the capital of nose surgery in the world." According to Mr. Saberi, out of every 100 applicants, 30 need surgery, 30 do not actually need surgery but request nose aesthetic surgery due to trends or peer pressure, and the others may choose to undergo surgery based on personal preference. As reported by Khabar Online, research has shown that young people who are more engaged with social media are more inclined to seek cosmetic surgeries, and thus, according to the Secretary of the Iranian Scientific Association of Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetics, "the number of men seeking cosmetic surgery has increased compared to ten years ago." Mr. Saberi noted that about 20% of cosmetic surgeries in Iran are related to men, which includes "facelift, forehead lift, and nose surgery," followed by "gynecomastia," a common condition in men characterized by enlarged breast tissue. He also described the entry of "non-specialists" into this field due to social media advertising, which has led to increased mortality and complications following cosmetic surgeries, as a crisis in the beauty industry. Previously, Mohammad Khordmand, Deputy of the Medical System's Disciplinary Organization, reported a 30% increase in medical complaints, stating that 20% of these complaints pertain to doctors and dentists who have entered the beauty field. He mentioned that 46,000 cases have been filed in courts, with indictments registered against them, and over 10,000 cases have also been registered with disciplinary boards. The unauthorized and unregulated entry of non-specialists into the beauty service sector in Iran has led to claims by Iranian media that the number of men visiting beauty clinics has increased tenfold.
