Obama: The slogan 'Death to America' is not the belief of all Iranian people

Barack Obama, the President of the United States, defended the nuclear agreement with Iran in a speech at American University in Washington on Wednesday. He stated that the slogan 'Death to America' does not reflect the beliefs of all Iranian people. At the end of his speech, Obama urged American citizens to contact their representatives in Congress to share their views on the nuclear agreement with Iran. He emphasized that Americans should take pride in this achievement. Obama noted that every country in the world that has an opinion on Iran's nuclear program supports this agreement, except for Israel. He warned that if Congress rejects the agreement, the U.S. would lose more than just the sanctions regime; it would lose its credibility as a leader in global diplomacy. Obama argued that a nuclear-armed Iran would be far more dangerous for Israel and the U.S. than an Iran that eventually emerges from sanctions. He stated that the hardliners in Iran chanting 'Death to America' do not represent the views of all Iranians. He also pointed out that hardliners in Iran and Republicans in the U.S. share common goals in opposing this agreement. The President warned that rejecting the nuclear agreement in Congress would leave only one option: war, adding, 'Let's not play with words; the only options we ultimately face are choosing between diplomacy or some form of war.' He noted that if Iran violates the nuclear agreement in the next decade, all sanctions would be reinstated, while also stating that 'we will continue to impose sanctions in cases where Iran supports terrorism or violates human rights.'
