Obama: Trump Will Eventually Recognize the Values of the Nuclear Agreement with Iran

Barack Obama, the President of the United States, stated that Donald Trump, the President-elect, will ultimately recognize the values of the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. According to Agence France-Presse, Obama expressed in an interview with ARD and Der Spiegel in Berlin: 'I believe that in the end, the President-elect will recognize the values of maintaining this agreement to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.' During his campaign, Donald Trump referred to the nuclear agreement with Iran as one of the 'worst' deals and stated that his priority is to abandon this agreement. The nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers, including the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, along with Germany, was signed on July 14 last year in Vienna, and according to it, in exchange for severe restrictions on Tehran's nuclear program, sanctions imposed on Iran will be reduced or lifted. In this context, John Kirby, the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, also emphasized on Friday that the Obama administration will continue its approach to adhering to the nuclear agreement with Iran, known as the JCPOA. Kirby, responding to a question about the Obama administration's concerns regarding the increased likelihood of the JCPOA being abandoned in the next administration, stated: 'As I have said many times, we remain focused on policies that align with the priorities of the current administration.' The State Department spokesperson added: 'We currently have only one president in office, and we are following the policies of the Obama administration.' He emphasized: 'We still believe in the validity and importance of the nuclear agreement with Iran and the security it brings to the region and the world.' Previously, French President Francois Hollande also stated that he does not think Donald Trump will abandon the nuclear agreement with Iran. According to Reuters, Hollande added: 'This agreement (JCPOA) brings us all kinds of security. Can the U.S. under Trump's leadership question this agreement? I don't think so.' In this context, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a ban on the sale of passenger aircraft to Iran. Hollande: 'I don't think Trump will cancel the nuclear agreement with Iran.' Obama: 'We will veto any legislation that prevents the sale of passenger aircraft to Iran.' The House of Representatives extended the 'Iran Sanctions Act' for another ten years.
