Obama: We Must Give Trump Time to Make Decisions

Barack Obama, the President of the United States, on Monday, November 14, urged the American people to give Donald Trump the opportunity to adjust to the responsibilities of the presidency. According to CNN, Barack Obama stated in his first press conference after the U.S. presidential election that some of Donald Trump's expectations would change due to the difficulties of presidential responsibilities. Mr. Obama also emphasized that after his meeting last week with the president-elect, he is convinced that Mr. Trump sincerely wants to be the president for all Americans. Following Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, several cities in the U.S. witnessed protests. Nevertheless, the President of the United States has asked Mr. Trump to take actions to address concerns and promote unity in the country after the end of the election campaigns. Barack Obama said, 'I don't think he is an ideological person, but ultimately he is a pragmatic person. This will help him, provided he chooses good advisors and has a good understanding of setting directions.' Barack Obama attended this press conference while he is set to make his last foreign trip to Germany, Greece, and Peru. During the press conference, the President of the United States praised Donald Trump's ability to connect with voters and win the election during their meeting. Barack Obama also reflected on Donald Trump's plans for the presidency, asking himself: 'Am I worried? Of course, I am worried. He and I have many differences on various issues.' According to CNN, one of the reporters asked Barack Obama about the appointment of Stephen Bannon as Donald Trump's senior advisor in the White House. However, Mr. Obama responded that it is inappropriate to comment on this matter, as such comments could contradict efforts for a smooth power transition. Barack Obama stated, 'I think it is important for us to give him the opportunity to make his decisions. The American people will be able to judge what they see over the next two years.' Mr. Obama continued, 'The presidency has its own specific ways of making one aware. If he has a position or has taken a position that does not align with reality, he will realize it very soon.' Nevertheless, the President of the United States said, 'The American people have spoken, and Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States. Those who did not vote for him should understand that this is the mechanism of democracy.' Donald Trump will officially begin his presidency on January 20, 2017.
