Obama's Eid al-Fitr Greetings

The Facebook page of the U.S. State Department published a message from Barack Obama, the President of the United States, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr: "Michelle and I would like to extend our warmest wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr in the United States and around the world. As Muslims honor the end of Ramadan, they remember that this month is a time for spiritual reflection, community building, and helping those in need. While Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, it is a new beginning for each individual – a reason to celebrate and express gratitude on this festive day." In another part of the message, it states: "As American Muslims celebrate the holiday across the U.S., this celebration reminds all Americans of the importance of respecting followers of all religions and beliefs. Last year, New York City public schools announced that they would add Eid al-Fitr to their official school calendar, alongside Christmas, Hanukkah, and other holidays – a testament to the broad diversity and inclusiveness that enriches our country. At this year's Iftar dinner at the White House, I had the opportunity to meet inspiring young American Muslims who are leading efforts for better understanding and unity among diverse communities." At the end of the message, Mr. Obama says: "Michelle and I hope that today brings joy to the homes of all of you, both here in the United States and around the world. From my family to yours, Eid Mubarak!"
