October 10; A Day for Global Struggle Against the Death Penalty

Every year, October 10, corresponds to the World Day Against the Death Penalty. This year, on the thirteenth anniversary of this global observance, two international organizations, namely the 'International Federation for Human Rights' and the 'World Coalition Against the Death Penalty', have reported that Asia is the continent with the highest number of executions for drug-related offenses. Elaheh Ravanesh, in an interview with Abdolkarim Lahiji, the President of the International Federation for Human Rights, has inquired about further details regarding this report. The 'World Coalition Against the Death Penalty', which includes NGOs, bar associations, local institutions, and unions, has stated that the implementation of the death penalty has not been effective in reducing drug-related crimes in Asia. In this context, a demonstration was held on Saturday afternoon by the 'Refugee Association and the Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners' in front of the Islamic Republic of Iran's embassy in Berlin.
