Olaf Scholz's Response to Elon Musk's Criticism and His Support for the Far-Right Party in Germany

Previously, following a deadly attack in the city of Magdeburg just before Christmas that left dozens dead and injured, he referred to Olaf Scholz as an 'incompetent fool' and verbally attacked the President of Germany as well. In response to these activities, the German government announced last week that Musk, a senior advisor to Donald Trump, is attempting to influence the upcoming elections by supporting the far-right 'Alternative for Germany' party. Now, Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, in an interview with Stern magazine published on Saturday, January 15, described Musk's verbal attacks as 'nonsense' and emphasized that Germany is 'a stable democracy, and Musk can say whatever he wants.' However, he further stated that Elon Musk's support for the far-right party in Germany is 'a bigger issue than those insults.' Reactions in Germany to Musk's statements suggest an attempt to 'influence' the elections and 'weaken' Europe. Scholz's center-left coalition government collapsed last month following the withdrawal of the Free Democratic Party from the tripartite coalition and the dismissal of the finance minister from that party, with early parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5. With less than two months to go before the elections, polls in Germany indicate that the far-right party, known as AFD, may secure 19% of the vote, placing it second after the party led by Friedrich Merz. Elon Musk believes that the AFD is 'not extreme' and could 'liberate' Germany from its problems if it comes to power. While he has not fully clarified how this far-right party could solve all of Germany's issues, many experts and analysts believe that Musk's primary motivation for his political stances is his financial interests. Musk, who is considered the richest person in the world, contributed $250 million to Donald Trump's campaign in the U.S. and it has been suggested that he plans to donate $100 million to Nigel Farage's right-wing party in the UK. Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister from the Labour Party, has also been a target of Musk's verbal attacks. Musk also maintains very good relations with the right-wing leaders of Italy and Hungary. Musk's invitation to the German people to vote for the far-right party has sparked controversy.
