One killed and dozens injured in the seventh protest demonstration of Gaza residents

Palestinians residing in Gaza continued their 'Return' protest on Friday, May 10, with demonstrations in five areas along the borders of the strip with Israel for the seventh consecutive Friday; in these protests, at least one Palestinian was killed and dozens more were injured. According to hospital sources in Gaza, the deceased Palestinian was a 40-year-old man from near Khan Younis in southern Gaza. According to Palestinian sources, including this Friday's casualties, the number of Palestinians killed in the past seven weeks has risen to 54, and the number of injured has exceeded 8,600. Israel claims that Palestinians this Friday also aimed to damage the security barrier and infrastructure, and were attempting to harm Israeli soldiers at the border. Palestinians began the 'Return' protests from 'Land Day' along the Gaza-Israel borders and have stated that they will continue until 'Nakba Day', for a duration of one and a half months. Palestinians refer to the anniversary of Israel's independence as the Day of Catastrophe or 'Nakba Day'. This year, the occasion coincides with the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment, on Monday, May 14. While the number of participants in this Friday's protests is estimated at around 15,000, Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas's political bureau, stated that Palestinians will demonstrate on Monday like a 'flowing river' to show their opposition to Zionism. Zionism is the nationalist movement of the Jewish people, upon which Israel was founded. Ismail Haniyeh, who had also participated in the previous six Fridays' protests, was seen holding a slingshot, apparently to throw stones at Israeli soldiers across the border, and stated that Palestinians will continue their large protests on Tuesday during the transfer of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. He said, 'Trump and Netanyahu cannot change the identity of Jerusalem, which is Arab and Islamic.' According to Israel's Channel 10, in anticipation of the U.S. embassy transfer ceremony to Jerusalem, the Israeli army has increased its forces around the Gaza borders and is on high alert. The Israeli army has also linked two incidents of running over Israeli soldiers in the West Bank on Friday to the proximity of the U.S. embassy transfer day to Jerusalem. Meanwhile, the Israeli and U.S. governments are making final preparations for the opening ceremony of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. Donald Trump announced on December 6 of last year that his country would move its embassy to Jerusalem. Reports indicate that Trump's speech will be broadcast on large screens at the embassy building. A large delegation, including senior representatives from the U.S. government and Congress, will attend the historic opening ceremony of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. Jared Kushner, senior advisor to the U.S. President, his wife Ivanka Trump, and Jason Greenblatt, the U.S. President's special representative for Middle East negotiations, are also among the large American delegation at the ceremony on Tuesday. Nir Barkat, the mayor of Jerusalem, recently installed the first directional signs to the U.S. embassy in the Arnona neighborhood of Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority has urged representatives of countries to refrain from attending the U.S. embassy opening ceremony in Jerusalem. Palestinians assert that an independent Palestinian state should be established with East Jerusalem as its capital. However, apart from the U.S., several other countries have recently stated that they will move their embassies to Jerusalem, and a few governments have expressed readiness for similar actions, either conditionally or unconditionally.
