One of Tomaj Salehi's Criminal Cases Closed in Court

Mostafa Nili, Tomaj Salehi's lawyer, stated that the court announced the closure of the case related to the 2022 protests involving the imprisoned protest singer by issuing a suspension of prosecution order. This lawyer explained in an interview with 'Shahrak Network' on Tuesday, December 5, that Mr. Salehi's case was referred to Branch 5 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan following the Supreme Court's annulment of the previous ruling. Branch 5 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan issued a verdict of acquittal in August of this year regarding the charges of 'corruption on earth,' for which a death sentence had previously been issued against Tomaj Salehi. The Revolutionary Court annulled Tomaj Salehi's death sentence and ruled in favor of his acquittal. Tomaj Salehi had been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in May for this criminal case, but Amir Raisian, another of his lawyers, announced in early July that the Supreme Court of Iran had overturned this ruling and sent it to Branch 5 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan. This branch ultimately made a decision on Sunday, December 4, regarding the remaining charges against Mr. Salehi from the 2022 protests, and announced the complete closure of the case by issuing a suspension of prosecution order. According to Mostafa Nili, Tomaj Salehi is still imprisoned due to a case of 'propaganda against the regime' that was formed against him last year, resulting in a one-year prison sentence. This lawyer clarified that there is a disagreement regarding the starting point and duration of the imprisonment that his client has endured. He expressed hope that considering the time Mr. Salehi has spent in prison, the end of his imprisonment would be announced soon. Tomaj Salehi, a imprisoned rapper, was released on bail on November 18, 2023, 'after enduring 252 days of solitary confinement and a total of one year and 21 days in prison,' but only 12 days later, after a video was released in which he described being tortured in prison, he was re-arrested with 'beating.' He was significantly involved in the widespread protests of 2022, which began after the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini in the custody of the morality police, supporting all protesters, detainees, and political activists, which led to a new case being opened against him.
