Ongoing Tension Between Trump and the Media

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, resumed his attacks on media outlets he labels as 'fake' during his visit to Pennsylvania, this time calling them 'fake and disgusting' and referring to journalists as his political opponents. Pennsylvania is the state that unexpectedly voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, and he is now trying to support the Republican candidate in the upcoming elections this fall to send him to the Senate. The Associated Press reports that Mr. Trump, who was present at the Republican candidate's campaign event, targeted the media and accused them of publishing false news. While pointing to reporters at the back of the hall, the U.S. President said, 'What has happened to the free media? What happened to honesty in reporting? They do not report these issues. They only write fictional stories.' Donald Trump has repeatedly condemned the media for expressing doubt about how he emerged victorious in the presidential election. In his remarks on Thursday night, he also complained that the media downplayed his meeting with Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, and then referenced his victory in the 2016 election, particularly in Pennsylvania, stating that 'fake media' did not want such a thing. Mr. Trump promised that Pennsylvania would bring him victory once again and that 'the negative storytelling of the narrators would return to themselves.' In this fall's elections in Pennsylvania, Republican Lou Barletta is competing against Democratic Senator Bob Casey. Trump has previously referred to the media he calls fake as 'the enemy of the American people.' The Associated Press notes that just hours before Mr. Trump's speech in Pennsylvania, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House spokesperson, faced a question during a press briefing about the President calling the media 'the enemy,' and she simply stated that Donald Trump has clearly expressed his positions.
