Over 300 Activists Demand Immediate Release of Nasrin Javadi, Imprisoned Labor Activist

312 civil and political activists issued a statement warning about the physical and mental condition of Nasrin Javadi, a 68-year-old prisoner in Evin, whose child is in a coma in the hospital, and called for her immediate release. The statement, released on Thursday, November 1, noted that the judicial and security officials of the Islamic Republic not only refuse to grant Ms. Javadi conditional release but also "even deny this suffering and rights-seeking mother leave." This statement came just days after Ramin Safarnia, Nasrin Javadi's lawyer, told the Etemad newspaper that her only child, who suffers from type 1 diabetes, has gone into a coma and is hospitalized due to being left alone and lack of care. The signatory activists emphasized the immediate release of Nasrin Javadi and the end of "the excruciating concern and suffering of a mother," calling on the public, activists, and human rights organizations to support Ms. Javadi. Keyvan Samimi, Ghasem Shole-Sadi, Mohammad Reza Ali-Payam, Keyvan Mohtadi, Zhila Bani-Yaghoub, Fakhr al-Sadat Mohtashami-Pour, Sepideh Gholian, and Hassan Nayeb Hashem are among the signatories of this statement. Nasrin Javadi was arrested following her participation in the International Workers' Day rally in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on May 1, 2019, and subsequently sentenced to a total of seven years in prison and 74 lashes by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of "collusion and conspiracy to act against national security," "disturbing public order and comfort," and "propaganda against the regime," of which five years are enforceable. This labor activist has been imprisoned since July 2019, and according to her lawyer, despite nearly half of her prison term having passed, judicial authorities have not agreed to her conditional release. Ramin Safarnia also told Etemad that his client is struggling with multiple illnesses in Evin prison, "including severe osteoporosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and internal organ failure."
