A local armed group named 'Nour Shams and Tulkarm Camp Organization' identified the deceased as 'Ahmad Abul-Foul,' a member affiliated with the predominantly paramilitary 'Islamic Jihad.' This group described Abul-Foul's killing as a 'treacherous' act, likening it to 'assassinations carried out by Israeli special forces.' The Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, has limited autonomy in the West Bank and occasionally coordinates security matters with Israel. Parts of this territory have descended into chaos and poverty, with both the Palestinian Authority and Israel blaming each other. Relations between the two sides have particularly soured during the ongoing Gaza war. Hamas, an ally of Islamic Jihad and a critic of Mahmoud Abbas's approach to achieving a diplomatic agreement with Israel, condemned the 'attacks by Palestinian Authority security forces.' Palestinian security forces and armed individuals have exchanged fire several times over the past year, but fatalities from these clashes have been rare. Blinken is discussing increased aid to Gaza with Netanyahu, who stated that they will enter Rafah with or without an agreement and eliminate Hamas. The '50-hour operation' by the Israeli army in the Nour Shams refugee camp has ended, resulting in the deaths of '14 armed Palestinians.'
