Parisa Salehi, Journalist and Student, Before Transfer to Prison: Attachment to Iran is Not a Crime

Parisa Salehi, a journalist and student, was transferred to Kachoui Prison in Karaj on Sunday, April 9, to serve a five-month prison sentence for 'propaganda against the regime.' Before her transfer, in a video reacting to the death sentence issued for Tomaj Salehi, she stated, 'It is very terrifying that someone can be sentenced to death merely for expressing their opinion.' Parisa Salehi emphasized that 'none of us have committed any kind of crime,' adding, 'Attachment to Iran and being concerned for the people of Iran is not a crime. We love Iran and the Iranian people and are waiting for a day when we can see our country flourish. We stand by our promise and will fight for Iran, for women, life, and freedom until our last breath.' She also noted that despite the 'full-scale war the government has waged against women, women continue to resist,' praising these acts of civil disobedience as 'truly amazing.' Parisa Salehi is a journalist for Donya-e-Eqtesad newspaper and a master's student in economics at the University of Tehran. She was summoned to the Karaj Prosecutor's Office in September 2023 and was released on bail after being informed of her charges. In addition to the five-month prison sentence for propaganda against the regime, she has been sentenced to two years of exile, two years of travel ban, and two years of prohibition from joining social media networks.
