Parisa Salehi, Journalist of Donya-e-Eqtesad Newspaper, Summoned to Prosecutor's Office

Parisa Salehi, a journalist for Donya-e-Eqtesad newspaper, reported her summons to the prosecutor's office in Karaj on Saturday, September 9, after security agents searched her home and confiscated her mobile phone. This journalist, who opposes mandatory hijab, wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that security agents repeatedly insulted and threatened her and her family during the search of her home in Karaj on Tuesday, September 5. No information has been released regarding the charges against this master's student in economics at the University of Tehran. Nazila Maroufian, a critical journalist who had interviewed Mahsa Amini's father, was also arrested again on Wednesday, September 6, with violence. She stated that she was assaulted during her detention and is currently on a hunger strike. Meanwhile, Elnaz Mohammadi, a journalist for Ham-Mihan newspaper, and Negin Bagheri, a journalist for Haft Sobh newspaper, were sentenced to three years of suspended imprisonment, participation in a professional ethics training course, and a three-year travel ban on charges of 'conspiracy and collusion against national security.' The International Federation of Journalists condemned the sentences issued against these two journalists and expressed concern over such rulings against journalists in Iran. Journalists are among the groups that have faced intensified security pressures from the Iranian government ahead of the anniversary of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini's death.
