Participants in Raisi's Memorial Attack Protesters; London Police: One Arrested

Hours after images of an 'attack' by supporters of the Islamic Republic on protesters circulated on social media, London police announced on Friday that four people were injured and one person was arrested during the scuffle. Reports indicate that this clash occurred during a memorial ceremony for the late Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the thirteenth government, and his companions on Friday in northwest London. Video footage released on social media shows a number of opponents of the Islamic Republic protesting in front of the ceremony while holding Iranian flags and chanting slogans such as 'Death to Khamenei.' The footage also shows several men dressed in black attacking the protesters and engaging in a scuffle with them. In one of the videos, a woman filming the altercation is attacked by the men in black and falls to the ground. The video continues with a black-clad man seen kicking the woman who is on the ground. The Metropolitan Police of London stated in their announcement that at 18:21 on Friday, May 24, they received reports of disorder on Albert Road in Wembley, prompting them to dispatch officers to the area. The London police added that this altercation occurred outside the venue of the memorial for Ebrahim Raisi. The statement further notes that London Ambulance Service personnel were stationed at the scene during the altercation. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that four individuals sustained minor injuries and received treatment. The spokesperson added, 'One person was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.' The London police also stated that they dispersed attendees from the scene of the altercation. According to the report, police forces remained at the site until 3 a.m. on Saturday. Ebrahim Raisi, the eighth President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, tragically died in a plane crash on Sunday evening, May 30, while returning from the inauguration of the Qiz Qaleh dam in the Varzaghan region of East Azerbaijan Province, along with seven companions. He had been active in the judiciary of the Islamic Republic during the 1980s. Ebrahim Raisi was one of the four members of the death committee in the summer of 1988. According to Amnesty International, thousands of political prisoners serving their sentences were executed during the summer of 1988. Raisi also held positions such as prosecutor in Karaj and Hamedan and revolutionary prosecutor in Tehran during the early 1980s amidst the suppression and execution of political opponents.
