Parvaneh Masoumi, Renowned Actress of Cinema and Television, Passes Away

Parvaneh Masoumi, a well-known actress in Iranian cinema and television, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, at the age of 78 in a hospital in Rasht. Sakineh Kaboudar Ahangi, who later adopted the artistic name Parvaneh Masoumi, was born on February 29, 1945, in Tehran. She graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at National University of Iran and first appeared in the film "Bita" in 1971, later shining as the lead actress in Bahram Beyzai's film "Ragbar" a year later. According to ISNA, citing Naimeh Nazemdoost, an actress, the reason for Masoumi's hospitalization was "intestinal rupture," and she died on Tuesday due to "pneumonia." Parvaneh Masoumi also had a notable career with roles in films such as "Gharibe," "Mah va Kargah" by Bahram Beyzai, "Golhaye Davoodi" directed by Rasoul Sadr Ameli, and "Nakhoda Khorshid" by Nasser Taghvaei. She also acted in the series "Koochake Jangali" and "Imam Ali." Masoumi's passing, who had supported the Islamic Republic in recent years, has sparked reactions on social media. Some users have shared images of this veteran actress without a hijab alongside her photos from government ceremonies. Masoumi was one of the actresses who attended a meeting with Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, following the widespread protests of the "Green Movement." Some users recalled this meeting, noting that Masoumi had told Fars News Agency: "I was ill today with a fever of about 39 degrees, but I attended this ceremony with great enthusiasm." Siamak Rahmani, a journalist, wrote on social media X, "I have no admiration or farewell to offer in memory of her. Ms. Masoumi, in my opinion, stood on the wrong side of history for years. It was her choice. Now we have the right to respect her or not, and I do not." On the other hand, some pro-Islamic Republic users praised Masoumi, stating that she "had insight and did not engage in the game of the overthrowers" and "did not remove her hijab." Masoumi's death on Tuesday comes just two days after the passing of Bita Farahi, another well-known woman in Iranian cinema.
