Payam Darvishan, Lawyer for Protesters and Political Defendants, Summoned Again

Payam Darvishan, a lawyer representing several protesters and political and security defendants, announced his summons to Branch 13 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj. In the summons, this lawyer is accused of 'defamation and insult to officials and agents and dissemination of falsehoods.' Darvishan, while publishing this summons on his 'X' page, wrote: 'The lawyer's entitlement in the position of defense is in line with the respect and guarantees of the judicial profession to preserve dignity and to treat the lawyer based on his professional status and the independence of the lawyer in his defense position, and not to assault him or create deprivation in his professional privileges and rights and the immunity of the lawyer in any accusation due to the fulfillment of his legal duties.' The date of this summons is recorded as January 5, and the General Court of Alborz Province has given Darvishan five days to appear for 'defense against the attributed accusation.' Darvishan has previously been arrested and imprisoned due to his professional activities and during his detention was subjected to 'abuse and torture' by the IRGC intelligence forces and was transferred to Aminabad Psychiatric Hospital in Tehran. Over the years, Islamic Republic officials have repeatedly arrested or sentenced some lawyers to prison. International organizations, including Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders, have labeled the Islamic Republic of Iran as a violator of freedom of expression and a restrictor of media. The United States has also condemned the Islamic Republic for its violent actions and widespread repression of protesters and civil activists, as well as the repeated and ongoing violations of the rights of Iranian citizens, including the right to freedom of expression and civil liberties. Yasser Rahmani-Rad was summoned for a free visit on the anniversary of Aida Rostami. The case of one of the defendants in the 'Basij Murder' case has been sent to the Supreme Court. Defendants in the 'Ekbataneh Town' case were arrested after the trial. Confirmation of imprisonment and fines for Mashallah Karami and his supporting benefactors is on the eve of the second anniversary of Mahsa's death.
