Payman Abdi, a citizen from Paveh, dies hours after arrest

Reports indicate that Payman Abdi, a 35-year-old citizen from Nosud in the Paveh county, died hours after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department of Kermanshah. According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, this citizen from Nosud was arrested on Tuesday, January 2, and that same night he fell into a coma 'under torture' and 'beating' and was transferred to the Army Hospital. Prior to the announcement of this citizen's death by the officials of Hospital 520 in Kermanshah, known as the Army Hospital, the family's inquiries about his fate had remained unanswered. According to this report, doctors at the hospital stated that the cause of Payman Abdi's death, a father of two children, was 'a hard object hitting his head.' Hengaw reports that security agencies threatened Payman Abdi's family to prevent the news from being publicized and claimed that he died due to choking from 'a piece of food stuck in his throat.' According to this report, Payman Abdi's body was handed over eight days after his arrest, following a written commitment from his family not to publicize the matter, on Wednesday, January 10. Islamic Republic officials cited his arrest as due to a confrontation with agents and refrained from providing details. According to Hengaw, at least 11 prisoners, including 8 Kurdish citizens, died under torture in Iranian prisons last year. Borzin Hamzazadeh, a child arrested during nationwide protests, died due to injuries sustained from torture. Reactions have arisen regarding the suspicious death of Ashkan Baloch after his renewed summons: the Islamic Republic killed him. The UN General Assembly condemned the widespread human rights violations by the Islamic Republic by passing a resolution. A complaint has been filed against the head and nurse of the Nowshahr prison on charges of 'murder' regarding Javad Rouhi.
