Pentagon: 10 Leaders of ISIS Killed in the Past Month

On Tuesday, January 8, a spokesperson for the U.S. Army in Iraq announced that in airstrikes over the past month targeting ISIS positions, 10 of its leaders were killed, some of whom were linked to the attackers of the Paris attacks. Colonel Steve Warren told reporters that one of these leaders, named 'Sharaf al-Ma'adan,' was killed on December 24. According to him, this ISIS leader was planning new attacks along with several others. Colonel Warren added, 'He was a member of ISIS who had direct connections with Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the leader of the Paris attacks. He was planning new attacks against the West.' He also mentioned that Abdulqadir Hakim was among the dead, coordinating the group's foreign operations and connected to the network of the Paris attackers. He was killed on December 26 near the city of Mosul, Iraq. In the Paris attacks that occurred on November 13, 130 people were killed. The Pentagon spokesperson stated that recent coalition airstrikes against ISIS have been successful. The Iraqi army recently managed to liberate the city of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, from ISIS occupation. Colonel Warren emphasized, 'Part of these successes is due to the fact that the organization is losing its leaders.' He also noted that 'this is still just showing teeth to them.' According to the Associated Press, it seems that most of these individuals are mid-level leaders of ISIS. The report adds that one of the killed leaders was a Bangladeshi national who had spent some time in the UK and was collaborating with ISIS as a hacker.
