Pentagon Announces Deployment of Second Aircraft Carrier to the Middle East and Strengthening of Air Squadron in the Region

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, warned on Sunday that if Iran does not reach an agreement with Washington regarding its nuclear program, it will face 'bombing' and secondary tariffs. Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, stated on Tuesday during Eid al-Fitr prayers in Tehran that the U.S. and Israel would face a 'strong retaliatory blow' if they attack Iran. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guards, threatened U.S. forces in the region on Tuesday, stating that they are in a 'glass house' and should not 'throw stones.' Iran has always denied seeking nuclear weapons, but in recent months, several officials close to Ali Khamenei have spoken about the possibility of changing this approach and the necessity of moving towards producing a nuclear bomb. Ali Larijani, an advisor to Ali Khamenei, also threatened on Tuesday night that Iran would move towards building a nuclear weapon if targeted. Donald Trump has repeatedly stated since the beginning of his second term that he prefers negotiation and reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran over military action. He has reminded several times that Iranian officials must choose between these two options, and he personally hopes their choice will be negotiation and agreement. Iran and six world powers reached a nuclear agreement known as the JCPOA in July 2015, and Mr. Trump, who has always criticized the terms of this agreement, announced the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA in May 2018.
