Persepolis on Forming Women's Team: 'We Have Taken No Action'

Three weeks after the AFC's warning to the two clubs Persepolis and Esteghlal Tehran to form women's teams, Persepolis has stated that no action has yet been taken in this regard. The Asian Football Confederation has stipulated the formation of women's teams in these clubs as one of the conditions for granting professional licenses to Persepolis and Esteghlal. However, Persepolis stated in a statement: 'So far, no action has been taken regarding team licensing and player recruitment, and no action will be taken until a complete and comprehensive plan is available.' The statement also mentioned that 'first, hardware and software equipment must be provided and meet FIFA standards, and after equipping the facilities and specific organizations, the club will proceed to form a women's team.' It is unclear who the statement is addressed to, as the responsibility for the mentioned points lies with the club itself. The women's league in Iran has been held for years, and the potential excuses of the two clubs will not extend the deadline set by the confederation. Persepolis, which had a women's team before the Islamic Revolution, emphasized in its statement: 'The women's team has specific conditions. It must be professional and worthy of the great name of Persepolis, as Persepolis will claim championship in every field.'
