PJAK Claims 'Two Guards Killed' in Attack on Police Base

While the representative of Makoo in the Iranian Parliament states that the 'shooting' by forces of a group he describes as 'terrorist' at a 'police base' in the region resulted in 'no casualties', a website close to the PJAK group announced that 'two guards' were killed in this attack. According to the House of Representatives news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Ali Pour, the representative of Makoo, said that the attack by a group he calls 'terrorist' on 'one of the police bases on the Makoo - Shoht road' on the evening of Tuesday, September 10, resulted in 'no casualties' and caused 'minor damage' to the base. Mr. Ali Pour referred to the operations of the 'security and law enforcement' forces of the Islamic Republic in one of the cities of West Azerbaijan province against what he termed 'terrorist groups' last week, adding: 'It seems that this blind and unsuccessful terrorist action is in response to our forces' successes.' He also assessed the likelihood of PJAK's (Party of Free Life of Kurdistan) involvement in this attack as 'low'. Mr. Ali Pour's statements come as the website Farat News, associated with the PJAK group, reported that 'two guards' were killed in an attack by the 'Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK)' on a border post in an area between Makoo County and the Turkish border. This website quoted 'a source close' to the 'YRK' stating that this attack was 'in response to military assaults' by the Islamic Republic's forces and the 'execution of Kurdish political prisoners', particularly 'Behrouz Alkhani'. Behrouz Alkhani was executed in August along with five others on charges of collaborating with the 'PJAK' group. Meanwhile, the western provinces of Iran have witnessed clashes between Iranian security forces and PJAK in recent weeks. On August 8, reports emerged about clashes between the IRGC forces and PJAK near the village of 'Cham Zareh' from the villages of 'Thalas and Babajani' in Kermanshah province, resulting in the deaths of several members of this group. Additionally, Bahman Reyhani, commander of the Nabi Akram Corps in Kermanshah province, reported on Tuesday, September 9, that several 'anti-revolutionary' forces were killed and wounded in operations conducted by the IRGC on Sunday to 'cleanse' some border areas of this province. Previously, the deputy of the IRGC in Kurdistan province had reported that five members of the Basij forces from Kamyaran County in this province were killed on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, in a 'heavy clash' with PJAK forces. Earlier, Alireza Ashnagar, the governor of Kurdistan, confirmed the attack by PJAK's military branch on a post in Marivan, while stating that in this attack 'several blind shots were fired towards the post's guard' and there were no casualties. However, PJAK claimed that several Iranian agents were killed in this attack and added that they carried out this attack in retaliation for the IRGC's assault on their members and the 'clear violation of the ceasefire'.
