Plot to Assassinate British Prime Minister Foiled, Suspects to be Tried

Following the news of the foiled assassination plot against Theresa May, the British Prime Minister, British media report that two individuals will be tried in relation to this case. AFP reported on Wednesday (December 5) that the two men will appear in court today to respond to their charges. Their identities have been revealed as 'Naeem Zakariya Rahman', 20, from London, and 'Mohammad Aqib Imran', 21, from Birmingham. According to British media, 'Naeem Zakariya Rahman' intended to kill her by stabbing after blowing up the main gate of her office. Reports indicate that 'Mohammad Aqib Imran' is also accused of preparing for terrorist activities and intended to travel abroad as a result. This report comes a day after Amber Rudd, the British Home Secretary, told Parliament that 22 terrorist operations by Islamists had been foiled in the country. These terrorist plots have been thwarted since the murder of a British soldier in London by Muslim terrorists in 2013. According to Ms. Rudd, five of these terrorist operations were discovered after the attack on the British Parliament in March of this year, which resulted in five deaths. The London police also announced on Tuesday that Britain is under severe threat from terrorists and that their plans for carrying out terrorist operations in the country are 'multidimensional' and progressing at a speed and according to a plan that has not been seen before. The London police also reported conducting 500 anti-terrorism investigations concerning three thousand individuals and added that in the past, 20,000 individuals had been investigated or interrogated in this regard. Britain has faced five terrorist attacks this year, resulting in the deaths of 36 people and injuries to over 200. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for four of these attacks. In this context, one person was arrested in connection with the bombing in the London subway. ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing in the London subway, leading to an increase in the security alert level.
