Poets and Lovers; Vincent van Gogh Exhibition in London

A hundred years after acquiring a copy of Vincent van Gogh's famous 'Sunflowers' paintings, the National Gallery in London has dedicated an exhibition to this Dutch painter. The significance of this exhibition is particularly highlighted by the fact that a triptych by Van Gogh is being displayed together for the first time. The exhibition 'Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers' focuses on the artistic productions of Vincent van Gogh, the Dutch post-impressionist painter, from the winter of 1888 to the summer of 1890 at the National Gallery in London, as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the gallery. Vincent van Gogh spent his short life in poverty, a theme reflected in some of his works. During this two-year period, Van Gogh resided in southern France. Christopher Riopelle, one of the exhibition organizers, states that some of the works displayed in this exhibition are not well-known to the general audience. Mr. Riopelle said, 'This is a special exhibition because we have managed to gather a large number of paintings, 61 in total, which is significant for Vincent van Gogh. They have literally come from all over the world.' He added, 'At the same time, many of them are less known to the exhibition audience. In other words, this is an exhibition that showcases both globally recognized masterpieces of Van Gogh and masterpieces that have never been seen before.' The exhibition 'Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers' brings together about sixty paintings and drawings by Van Gogh, demonstrating the artist's talent in evoking emotions through colors. Among these, three paintings that Van Gogh created together but have never been displayed side by side have attracted more attention. Christopher Riopelle mentioned, 'He depicts this scene with three paintings. However, in reality, they have never been gathered together before. This opportunity had never arisen, except possibly in Van Gogh's own workshop.' He continued, 'This is an amazing moment for understanding what Van Gogh tells us when we gather his works in the realm of 'decorative sequences.' The London exhibition illustrates Van Gogh's use of recurring themes in his works, such as the peasant, poet, or woman. However, he was deeply influenced by his surroundings. For instance, during his time living in southern France, he reflected the nature of that area in his works. The exhibition organizer also stated, 'What we hope, and I think this exhibition will achieve, is that we need to reassess Van Gogh's character. He was not just someone who suffered and endured throughout his life. He was someone deeply committed to the beauty of nature, deeply committed to friends and family, and deeply committed to establishing a career as an avant-garde artist. He was always planning how to showcase his works with his friends and to dominate the artistic scene in Paris or even further afield, in Brussels and Amsterdam.' Vincent van Gogh spent his short life in poverty, a theme reflected in some of his works, but undoubtedly he added immense wealth to the art world with his paintings. Some of his works were purchased by the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art before the revolution and are now stored in the museum's warehouses.
