Police Clash with 'Smugglers' in Assaluyeh Leaves One Dead

Following reports of unrest in Assaluyeh, Haidar Abbaszadeh, the police chief of Bushehr province, announced that law enforcement clashed with 'smugglers' in the city of Assaluyeh, resulting in the death of one 'smuggler' during the confrontation. In an interview with the Tasnim news agency, Abbaszadeh explained that the smugglers were unloading contraband goods at the Nakhle Taqi port when they engaged with the police. According to Abbaszadeh, 'the smugglers did not heed the police's orders, and during the altercation, one of the smugglers was killed.' The police chief also reported that two individuals were injured in the incident and were immediately transferred to medical facilities. According to the local website 'Khaleej Fars', the incident began when 'police officers ordered a motorcyclist suspected of smuggling to stop while exiting the Nakhle Taqi pier, and due to the apparent disregard for the order, a police officer opened fire, resulting in the death of this individual.' The website reported that shortly after, some residents of Nakhle Taqi gathered in front of the police station, leading to clashes between them and the police, which, according to unofficial reports, resulted in four injuries. Among the images published by this website from the unrest at Nakhle Taqi port, a picture of a burned police vehicle can also be seen. In a statement from the Bushehr provincial police command, while confirming the death of one person by police gunfire, citizens were urged to 'refrain from spreading false and unverified news about the Nakhle Taqi incident that could cause public unrest. Otherwise, the cyber police will monitor and address the dissemination of false information.' Brigadier General Haidar Abbaszadeh emphasized in his conversation with Tasnim that 'the Nakhle Taqi port is currently under the control of law enforcement, and there are no issues in this port.' The 'Khaleej Fars' news site stressed that 'to maintain calm in the city of Nakhle Taqi,' the coastal street of this city remains closed. According to the police chief of Bushehr province, the crackdown on smuggling has intensified, and in the spring of this year, the volume of seized contraband increased by 54% compared to the same period last year.
