Political Guardian of Tomaj Salehi Supports Request for Release of This Imprisoned Protest Rapper in Iran

Awan Ri, a member of the German Parliament and political guardian of Tomaj Salehi, expressed support for the request for the release of this imprisoned protest rapper in Iran through a message on his account on the social media platform 'X'. This Social Democrat representative wrote: 'The family of Tomaj Salehi, along with an international team of lawyers and two NGOs, is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of this Iranian rapper.' This demand came at a time when Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the Islamic Republic's government, was traveling to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly. The family of Tomaj Salehi, along with the international legal team 'Doughty Street Chambers', the organization 'Index on Censorship', and the 'Human Rights Foundation', made this request on Tuesday, October 3, prior to Masoud Pezeshkian's speech at the UN General Assembly. In a part of a joint statement published on the websites of the two human rights organizations 'Doughty Street Chambers' and 'Index on Censorship', it was quoted from Negin Niknam, a friend of Tomaj Salehi and manager of his social media pages, stating: 'Despite the lack of an arrest warrant and the urgent need for medical services to avoid permanent disability due to injuries sustained from torture during detention, which is prohibited under Article 38 of the Iranian Constitution, Tomaj is being unlawfully held in Dashtgerd prison.' Negin Niknam further urged UN members to immediately raise these concerns and remind Iranian officials of their legal obligations, demanding full commitment from them to the immediate release of Tomaj before Masoud Pezeshkian's speech at the UN General Assembly in New York. In the joint statement from 'Doughty Street Chambers', 'Index on Censorship', and the 'Human Rights Foundation', it was quoted from Arzoo Eghbali Babadi, Tomaj's cousin, stating: 'The solidarity and support of the international community have played a crucial role in ensuring that my cousin's death sentence has not been carried out. Now, the international community must pressure the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Tomaj's release before it's too late.' These three human rights organizations have also submitted urgent complaints and requests to the UN in recent months, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Tomaj Salehi, the critical rapper of the regime. Brad Sherman, a Democratic representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently criticized the lack of medical attention for Tomaj Salehi and called for the release of this imprisoned rapper and all political prisoners 'under violence' in the prisons of the Islamic Republic. Human rights organizations, coinciding with Pezeshkian's presence at the UN, demanded the release of Tomaj Salehi.
