Political Prisoners in Ghezal Hesar Commemorate Second Anniversary of Mahsa's Death: Khamenei, the Tyrant, We Will Bury You

A group of political prisoners in Ghezal Hesar prison held a memorial ceremony on the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death and the onset of nationwide protests in 2021, chanting against the Islamic Republic and its leader Ali Khamenei. A source informed Voice of America’s Persian section on Tuesday, September 26, that during the ceremony, which took place 'before the evening statistics' in the political prisoners' yard, they shouted slogans including 'Khamenei the tyrant, we will bury you,' 'Death to the dictator,' and 'Political prisoners must be freed.' Civil and political activists imprisoned in Ghezal Hesar also emphasized the continuation of the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign and the necessity to halt the issuance and execution of death sentences in Iran while honoring Mahsa Amini and the victims of the 2021 protests through singing. Additionally, on the same day, coinciding with the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death while in police custody, a group of female prisoners in Evin went on hunger strike. Mahsa (Zhina) Amini died on September 16, 2022, in Kasra Hospital in Tehran, just days after being arrested by the morality police, leading to widespread protests across Iran that lasted for months in streets, universities, and schools. During the suppression of the 2021 protests by government forces, hundreds of citizens were killed, and thousands were injured and arrested. Furthermore, less than three months after the peaceful protests began, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic started executing several detained protesters. To date, the judiciary has executed Mohsen Shekari, Majidreza Rahnavard, Mohammad Mehdi Karami, Mohammad Hosseini, Saleh Mirhashimi, Saeed Yaqoubi, Majid Kazemi, Milad Zahraei, Mohammad Qobadlu, and Reza Rasai, all of whom were arrested during the 2021 protests, and several other protesters remain at risk of execution. The Iranian community in Washington and its suburbs held a gathering to commemorate the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. In a message on the second anniversary of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement, Sediqeh Vasmaghi stated: 'We women stand firm.' Princess Farah Pahlavi remarked that the efforts of 'religious tyranny' to eliminate the role of women in Iranian society have failed. Prince Reza Pahlavi called for the unity of Iranians against the Islamic Republic on the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. Mahsa Amini's father praised the 'public strike' on the second anniversary of his daughter's death as a 'clear warning and protest message' to the Islamic Republic.
