Pompeo: Iran has Targeted Europe with Terrorist Attacks for 40 Years
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reacted on Tuesday to the arrest of an Iranian-Norwegian individual suspected of attempting to attack opponents of the Islamic Republic in Denmark, congratulating the Danish government for the arrest. Pompeo tweeted: "For nearly 40 years, Europe has been the target of Iranian-backed terrorist attacks. We urge our allies and partners to confront the broad range of threats posed by Iran for the sake of peace and security." The Danish Security Service reported on Tuesday that the police arrested an Iranian-Norwegian suspect believed to be collaborating with Iranian security services and attempting to carry out an attack. Bahram Qasemi, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, denied the allegations. Iran has previously been accused of preparing an attack on a meeting of the Mojahedin-e Khalq organization in Paris, and an Iranian diplomat was also arrested in this regard. Qasemi strongly denied the Danish police's claims regarding an "unsuccessful operation against one of the Iranian opponents" in Denmark, calling such allegations a continuation of known enemies' plots against the good and expanding relations between Iran and Europe in the current critical situation. The Danish Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's ambassador to Copenhagen, Morteza Moradian, on Tuesday. The Danish police announced that they had arrested an Iranian-Norwegian individual suspected of planning an attack against a leader of the Ahvaz movement in Denmark.
