Pope Again Calls for an End to War in Ukraine and Gaza

Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, once again called for peace in Ukraine and the Middle East on Sunday, describing war as a 'crime against humanity.' After a weekly prayer, he stated, 'Let us not forget... people need peace, the world needs peace.' The Pope urged people not to forget those suffering from the 'cruelty of war' in various parts of the world. According to Reuters, he has previously called for peace in Ukraine and the Gaza conflict multiple times. The Pope said, 'Let us pray that those in power in these conflicts consider the reality that war is not their solution, as it sows death among civilians and destroys cities and infrastructure.' Israel launched an attack on Gaza following a Hamas attack on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people in Israel, most of whom were civilians. The war in Gaza has left thousands dead. Sunday marked the 100th day of Hamas's terrorist attack on Israel, which is considered the deadliest attack in the country's history. Israel claims that Hamas uses civilians as human shields. There was also a discussion between Zelensky and the Pope regarding peace in Ukraine, with over 80 countries participating in the peace process. The Vatican has historically approved a 'blessing request' for same-sex couples.
