Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, is likely to travel to Russia this month to meet with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. ABC News, citing an unnamed American official, reported that this meeting is part of Russia's efforts to acquire military equipment and ammunition for use in the Ukraine war. The American official indicated that the 'Vladivostok' region, due to its proximity to North Korea, is a potential location for this meeting. This news comes after letters exchanged between Putin and Kim, suggesting progress in negotiations between the two countries regarding arms sales. Additionally, the possibility of conducting joint military exercises between the two countries is also anticipated. Recently, Sergey Shoigu, the Russian Defense Minister, visited Pyongyang to discuss artillery ammunition purchases with North Korean officials. Meanwhile, the United States has urged North Korea to halt arms negotiations with Russia and adhere to its international commitments regarding arms sales to Russia. John Kirby, the National Security Council's Strategic Communications Coordinator at the White House, stated on Monday in response to this news: 'We urge North Korea to stop its arms negotiations with Russia and remain committed to its obligations not to sell arms to Russia.' John Kirby warned that otherwise, the U.S. would respond with sanctions against North Korea. Concerns about 'Russia's role' in increasing North Korea's 'missile capabilities' have led the U.S. to sanction three arms companies linked to North Korea and Russia. The targeting of Russia and North Korea for full-scale military cooperation is highlighted, with the South Korean President stating that the meeting with the U.S. and Japan is a turning point in trilateral relations. The North Korean leader has ordered an increase in the production of missiles and other weapons, and North Korean hackers have infiltrated 'the main design company for Russian missiles.'
